COME WITH ME ALICE. YOU’RE TOO WILD, TOO BEAUTIFUL, TO LIVE IN CHAINS. YOU BELONG OUT HERE. A ROSE IN A VASE IS NOT A ROSE IN THE FIELD. IT WITHERS.
WHERE WOULD WE GO, LUKE? WHAT WOULD WE EAT?
ANYWHERE WE WANT, MY LOVE, AND ANYTHING WE CAN CATCH OR FIND IN DUMPSTERS. YOU THINK YOU HAVE SECURITY BUT YOU HAVE SHACKLES. YOU THINK YOU ARE LOVED BUT YOU ARE A TOY FOR OTHERS’ AMUSEMENT. I WILL SHOW YOU FREEDOM. TOGETHER WE WILL BE UNSTOPPABLE. WE WILL SET THE WORLD AFLAME.
I DON’T KNOW, LUKE. YOU’RE JUST TOO DAMNED HANDSOME TO TRUST.
I CAN’T HELP THAT, ALICE. I WAS BORN THIS WAY. THE UPSTAIRS WINDOW IS OPEN. DON’T PACK A BAG.

It’s nostalgia season here for those of us in the United States education system. A time to throw cardboard hats up in the air and say goodbye to our best friends, favorite teachers, and journey into our bright futures… while racking up disgusting amounts of student debt ;)
Anyways, I wanted to thank you beautiful human beings for sharing these past four years with me. I truly appreciate everybody I’ve met over the past four years. Whether we’ve had one conversation or one thousand, I respect and appreciate each and every one of you!
I love all of you so much I wrote you a speech. Here it is:
Our lives are like a screenplay.
Some of us are Pirates of the Caribbean, ridiculous and nonsensical, but exciting none the less. Some of us are The Artist, silent but saying more than any word could ever say.
But the rest of us are movies yet to be made. Coming Soon, in Fall of 20something! We are stealthy blockbusters, future Academy Award Winners. We are indie films placing in festivals that are anything but ‘mainstream’. We may still in development, but you better be looking forward to the big finale. We have more potential than any producer can see, and when we get made, we’re going to change someone’s life. We will become someone’s “favorite movie.” Maybe many people’s favorite movie. But today? Today’s just the beginning. The opening credits. Star Wars-style. Once upon a time. At a graduation, far, far away.
Act one: we just received our call to action, and this journey we are about to embark on is filled with shocking plot twists, unconquerable obstacles, dastardly villains, and sweeping victories. We will have our share of laughs and tomfoolery in act two, of ‘all is lost’ moments in act three. We will fight till the end and beyond to make the best of the plot we’ve been given. We will have character flaws – who doesn’t? Every protagonist has one he must overcome by act three. Flaws make us human. Make us real.
And by FADE OUT, we will look back, all the way to where it started. Act One. SCENE: GRADUATION STAGE. Way back when we had no idea what was to come, but we embarked anyways, on our swashbuckling adventure, or our heart-melting love story. Maybe some of us will dance our way out of a town that outlaws dancing, or realize that indeed, there is no spoon.
But one thing is for sure: what we learned in high school will help us face the trials and high-seas adventures that await us here, and in the Caribbean.
So when you step off this stage today, you have the power to write your own story, filling it with all the adventures and momentous victories the world has to offer.
Write it well.
Goodbye, everyone! :)
