My Story
We all do it. You included. You lie about your age, speed in school zones, or cut the tags off your mattress.
Yeah, we all have a bit of lawlessness in us.
And that’s why you’re here. Because each of us have participated in Questionably Legal Maneuvers and enjoyed doing it. And people, that’s what living is about. Because, at heart, we’re all confused philanthropists who want to stick it to the man by going 31 in a 30mph zone.
Take that, law enforcement.
In May of 2010, my life was in pieces. My basketball career had ended in a painful way, and I felt useless without two hour practices or open gyms every night.
I began eating more, and exercising less, because exercise reminded me of my failures. So, in the natural equation of life, I began gaining weight.
In July of the same year, everything began to change. I watched a documentary by the name of Food Inc, and overnight I became a vegetarian. And not a pizza-eating vegetarian, either. Spinach smoothies became my daily breakfast.
I finally had something to commit myself to, a new goal; my dietary restriction presented a challenge: how can I still eat healthy without eating meat? I stopped gaining weight, and in August I started running.
The killer combination of becoming a vegetarian and a runner at the same time did wonders for my body and my life. I ran my first 10k in April 2011 and came in second for my age group.
Basketball no longer defines me, but instead of seeing myself as someone who quit, I’m realizing that I found something better, and more positive. And, most importantly, I’ve made these changes for me. No one else.
This blog is about motivating you to make changes for yourself and silencing those people who criticize us for being a vegetarian, or being a quitter, or just for doing the things that make us happy.
Because everyone deserves their own success story.
